Restoring the Environment

Lost in Samsara is proud to partner with One Tree Planted, a non-profit based in Vermont that is focused on global reforestation. Together with other reforestation partners they plant in 4 regions around the world - North America, South America, Asia & Africa.
We believe trees are really important and for every online item sold we will be able to plant a tree. This is our way to help reduce our carbon footprints and contribute to reduce the effects of climate change.

Seven reasons why trees are important:
1) They play an important role in the water cycle, grounding the water in their roots and releasing it into the atmosphere.
2) 70% of the world’s plants and animals live in forests and are losing their habitats to deforestation.
3) 300 billions tons of carbon are stored in the Earth's forests, which helps regulate its climate by regulating atmospheric gases, stabilising rainfall, and protecting against desertification.
4) More than 121 natural remedies in the rainforest can be used as medicines
5) If forests are destroyed through logging or burning, their carbon is released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, a climate-changing greenhouse gas.  15% of all greenhouse gas emissions are the result of deforestation.
6) 28,000 species are expected to become extinct by the next 25 years due to deforestation
7) 50% of all plant and animal species in the world live in tropical Rainforest.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, upcycling is "the activity of making new furniture, objects, etc, out of old or used things or waste material." It is not to be confused with recycling which is only the process of collecting materials so that it can be used again.

At Lost in Samsara we do both. We recycle old tyres, motorcycles seats, cement bags and bullet cases and we upcycle them to create our collections. By giving them a new life, we avoid that all these discarded materials end up in landfills thus polluting our planet.

This is how it works!

The waste material is bought to be reused and by doing so people are encouraged not to throw it away, but to keep it and then sell it. This means less trash and less pollution.

The artisans transform the material into one of our accessories giving it the extra miles.

By wearing one of our products you are not only contributing to keep waste out of landfills, but also helping to provide meaningful employment for disadvantaged artisans and their families.
