The Leap Manifesto - Lost in Samsara

The Leap Manifesto

“Utopia lies at the horizon.
When I draw nearer by two steps,
it retreats two steps.
If I proceed ten steps forward, it
swiftly slips ten steps ahead.
No matter how far I go, I can never reach it.
What, then, is the purpose of utopia?
It is to cause us to advance.” - Eduardo Galeano

It is not everyday that you can come across something so compelling as the Leap Manifesto where dreams of a better future are put beautifully into tangible actions and demands.
The Manifesto was born in 2015 after a two-day meeting involving representatives from Canada’s Indigenous rights, social and food justice, environmental, faith-based and labour movements.
Canada is the first country to release it but there are already groups working toward one for Australia and Britain (The People's Demand) and there has been interest expressed from around the world.
What I have really loved is that people have come together to shape a new and better world. They have stated what are their most important demands for a new economy, an economy that is inclusive, that can eliminate inequality and that strongly and fundamentally Cares, with a capitol C.
" We could live in a country powered entirely by renewable energy, woven together by accessible public transit, in which the jobs and opportunities of this transition are designed to systematically eliminate racial and gender inequality. Caring for one another and caring for the planet could be the economy’s fastest growing sectors. Many more people could have higher wage jobs with fewer work hours, leaving us ample time to enjoy our loved ones and flourish in our communities."
Now more than ever we need a revolution of ideas, without being scared of dreaming big. A revolution that brings us back together, that is necessary and most of all that we can undoubtedly afford.

“We need a different kind of solar revolution, one that doesn’t just change how we generate our power, but also who benefits.” – Naomi Klein
